A third player has signed a new contract following on from goalkeeper Keith Robertshaw and midfielder Liam MacDonald who penned new deals in recent weeks.

Midfielder Cai Matthew has followed suit and signed until summer 2025 extending his current deal by three years.

Cai signed from Formartine United in July 2019 having made only one appearance with United as an unused substitute. Ironically his Huntly debut would come against the team he left coming off the bench in an Aberdeenshire Cup exit to Formartine in August 2019.

His first goal would come three months later when he found the net up in Wick coming off the bench to score in a Highland League Cup first round win.

Speaking on signing his new contract, Cai said: “I’m very happy to extend my contract and I’m excited for the clubs future plans and delighted to be part of the project.

I’ve got a great relationship with the boys and the managerial team. The management have spoken about where the club wants to be and it’s all positive goals, so for me it was a no brainer. I Can’t wait to get going in the new season.”

The 19 year old has made 41 squad appearances to date and Manager Allan Hale is pleased another promising youngster has agreed to extend his stay.

He said: “We are delighted that Cai is another player to have agreed to extend his stay with the club for the long term.

Cai possesses outstanding technical ability and his consistency throughout the season has been excellent for someone so young and we believe he is someone who will continue to go from strength to strength under our guidance.”
