Fellow Highland League club Turriff United this past week announced they have signed current Huntly forward Reece McKeown on a pre-contract.

The club had been working hard behind the scenes to get the youngster to extend his stay at Christie Park as Manager Martin Skinner admitted the teenager had originally agreed to stay on.

He said: We are disappointed in the way we lost Reece, after weeks of positives talks and constructive outcomes, we were both agreed to extend his current stay.

Reece then had a sudden change of heart, expressing he didn't feel he would get the game time required to progress as a player due to the high expectations we are now setting within the squad.

Myself and the club did all we could to try and change this but he was not for changing. That being said we have very good/able squad to deal with any type of loss as we continue the current progress made”

Reece came to the club’s attention with some impressive performances in the under 17s development squad in 2016/17. In the same season he was part of the squad which won the Aberdeenshire League for the first time. In the summer of 2017 he penned a two year contract with the club. He has made 51 appearances since debuting scoring 2 goals before  he was sidelined due to a broken leg in early October against Forres Mechanics.
