Huntly and Deveronvale had to settle for a share of the points after the visitors had a man sent off and missed a penalty in a 1-1 draw at Christie Park.

Huntly made two changes from the side which exited the Aberdeenshire Cup midweek with Gavin Elphinstone and Cameron Booth coming in for Bradley Manson and Max McGinlay. Vale brought in Max Stewart and Dane Ballard following their opening day league defeat to Champions Brora Rangers.

With a minute gone, Deveronvale got off to a great start with a quick break which resulted in Kyle Gauld firing in a low drive just inside the box.

The returning Cameron Booth was impressive in midfield and created a chance after twenty minutes and he did well to pick out home debutant Gavin Elphinstone who came close with an effort wide of the post.

There was a let-off for Vale after 22 minutes when Ross Still crossed for Gavin Elphinstone at the far post but Harry Noble got in front of the Huntly player and headed the ball over his own crossbar. A minute later, Glenn Murison shot wide from an overhead kick following a Cameron Booth cross into the area.

Euan Storrier did well to stand up to a Ross Aitken shot before the half-hour mark after Logan Johnstone was short with a headed clearance.

Huntly were starting to threaten from set pieces and Glenn Murison headed wide from a Reece McKeown corner.

Ross Aitken came close with a minute of the half remaining firing wide of the upright after getting by Ross Still.

Half-Time: Huntly 0 Deveronvale 1

Two minutes into the second half, Ryan Farquhar got into a good attacking position only to drill his effort wide of the far post.

In the 49th minute, another Reece McKeown corner picked out Glenn Murison and his header was deflected wide. Gary McGowan took the second flag kick and the ball dropped kindly for Logan Johnstone to fire high into the net.

Minutes later, Deveronvale came close to regaining the lead when Dane Ballard ran on before chipping wide of the post. At the other end, Cai Matthew won the ball outside the opposition box and forced Gavin Still to dive low to save.

Deveronvale were reduced to ten men in the 57th minute when Courtney Cooper, who had earlier been cautioned hauled down Gavin Elphinstone out wide.

A great run by Cai Matthew with twenty minutes remaining saw the midfielder cross for Gavin Elphinstone whose shot was blocked on the line at close range. Four minutes later, McKeown cut the ball back to Murison who in turn crossed into the head of Elphinstone only to be denied by a great save by Gavin Still.

Euan Storrier was kept busy late on turning a Ryan Farquhar shot round the post in the 80th minute.

Cameron Bowden was penalised for a foul on Scott Dunn in the 81 st minute inside the box. Dane Ballard stepped up from the penalty only to see Euan Storrier parry the shot before the defence cleared.

Vale had a claim for another penalty when Storrier came running out of his goal and took down Dunn. The officials deemed the challenge was outside the area with the keeper cautioned.

Storrier did ensure his side held onto a point keeping out a Ballard header with a minute to go.
