Despite going ahead in the latter stages, Huntly fell to a 3-2 defeat to Deveronvale who netted twice in the closing stages.

Huntly brought goalkeeper John Farquhar back into the starting eleven while defender Christopher Herd (work commitments), Glenn Murison (concussion), Craig Dorrat and Alexander Thoirs (both on holiday) were unavailable. Steven Dolan was forced into changes with Michael Dunn and Robert Scott ruled out as Courtney Cooper and Matthew Wallace came in to start.

Vale went ahead in the 23rd minute when a long punt upfield from James Blanchard found Colin Charlesworth who ran on to chip the ball over John Farquhar for the opening goal.

Just under a minute later, Nathan Meres got forward following the restart and drove in from a tight angle for his fourth goal in five games.

As the half drew to a close, John Farquhar blocked what was almost a second goal from Charlesworth while into stoppage time the keeper kept out a Harry Noble free kick.

Deveronvale’s Scott Dunn was cautioned by Mat Northcroft at the interval after the forward showed dissent towards the match officials.

Half-Time: Huntly 1 Deveronvale 1

An hour in, a Kai Ross cross picked out Declan Milne whose first time shot was turned around the post by an acrobatic save by James Blanchard. Huntly had a claim for a penalty just three minutes later when the home players protested over a Ross Still cross striking a hand in the opposition box.

Midway through the second half, Kyle Gauld was through on goal only for a great block from John Farquhar to keep the shot out.

Huntly went ahead in the 71st minute when a ball out of defence from Logan Johnstone set Declan Milne away in the last third and he fired low into the far post for his ninth goal of the season.

Seven minutes later, Huntly substitute Paul Esslemont appeared to be tripped inside the opposition box. Things got heated and after consultation with Assistant Referee Arran Cruickshank, Referee Mat Northcroft chose to award a free kick outside the area.

The visitors levelled with ninety seconds remaining when Colin Charlesworth delivered from the right flank for substitute Ross Archibald to fire home.

Ross Archibald returned the favour for Colin Charlesworth two minutes into stoppage time as the winger took advantage of a defensive lapse before striking low for his second of the game.

The black and gold’s did came close to making it 3-3 a minute later when Declan Milne had a shot blocked before Bradley Manson fired wide from the rebound.
