Huntly pulled off the shock of the day with a 4-3 win over top of the table Buckie Thistle.

Huntly welcomed back Alexander Thoirs and Liam MacDonald into the starting eleven while Declan Milne was ineligible as per a loan agreement between the two clubs. There was a call-up for two of the under 20s squad with Calum Reid and Cameron Chyla. Buckie were missing Manager Graeme Stewart who was on holiday and made changes from the side which exited the Scottish the previous week with Shaun Carrol, Scott Graham, Scott Adams all coming in for starts.

Huntly got off to a flier with four goals inside the first seventeen minutes.

With four minutes gone, Kai Ross powered in a free kick from 25 yards out in off the post to open the scoring.

Four minutes later, a Ross corner was laid off by Ashley Ballam to Ross Still who fired in right-footed on the turn into the near post.

In the thirteenth minute, Craig Cowie was penalised for a foul on Nathan Meres out near the touchline. From the resultant free kick, Kai Ross delivered into the box for Ashley Ballam to head the ball inside the far post.

Huntly added a fourth when Reece McKeown burst down the right wing and crossed into the front post for Ross Still as the captain prodded in from close range.

Two minutes later, John Farquhar stood up to keep out a Craig Cowie free kick.

Buckie pulled one back when Andrew MacAskill turn in from close range after the home defence failed to clear at the first attempt.

Buckie had now started to come more into the game, Scott Adams struck the side-netting. There was controversy in the 27th minute when Lewis MacKinnon swung an arm at Nathan Meres resulting in a foul. MacKinnon who was taking charge of the visitors as Assistant Manager was fortunate to escape for his off the ball challenge.

Captain Ross Still threw his body on the line inside his box to keep out a MacAskill shot after the half-hour mark. Shortly after, Farquhar again kept out the Jags this time with a save from Kevin Fraser’s header. Minutes later, Farquhar pulled off a save to turn Scott Adams’ chipped shot round the post.

Half-Time: Huntly 4 Buckie Thistle 1

Two minutes into the second half, a McKeown through ball found Ross but his chip was into the hands of goalkeeper Lee Herbert.

Buckie withdrew Sam Robertson for Sam Urquhart at the interval and it took Urquhart eight minutes to make an impact when he stabbed home from a Shaun Carrol free kick into the far post.

Huntly came close to adding to their tally three minutes later when Bradley Manson set McKeown away down the right flank and when McKeown crossed for Meres, the youngster was kept out by Herbert at the near post.

Still picked up a caution for a challenge on MacAskill outside the area on the hour mark and from the resultant dead ball, Scott Adams curled over the bar.

Substitute Cai Matthew created an opening for McKeown as the winger drilled by the post.

Buckie goalscorer Urquhart found the side-netting on 72 while Carrol forced Farquhar into a save seven minutes from a dead ball. Farquhar would again keep the jags out saving a MacAskill 25 yard attempt as the game moved into stoppage.

Buckie ensured a nervy finish when Scott Adams fired in after making a run into box four minutes into stoppage time.
