Huntly recorded back-to-back wins and clean sheets as they ran out three-nil winners away to Turriff United.

Turriff brought Michael Ewen back into the starting line-up while Huntly kept the same eleven which knocked Lossiemouth out of the Highland League Cup while Alexander Thoirs and Matthew McDonald were added to the bench.

With seven minutes gone, Adam Cross looked to be in an offside position as he ran on behind the visiting defence only to find the side-netting with a low shot. Two minutes later, Nicholas Gray looked to be a good position for a pass but Gary McGowan went on his own before seeing a low drive parried by Hobday.

Huntly continued to press as Michael Clark and Nicholas Gray came close from headed efforts while home full back Owen Cairns was low and wide of the near post after a run down the right flank.

Chances kept coming for the visitors, with Kai Ross’s attempt deflected over in 27 minutes before Gray fired over following the resultant corner kick.

Stuart Taylor got forward on the half-hour mark only to be denied by a timely tackle from Huntly captain Michael Clark.

Two minutes from the break, Fraser Hobday fumbled the ball in the home goalmouth and took down Nicholas Gray for a penalty. garymcgowanGary McGowan stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Half-Time: Turriff United 0 Huntly 1

Huntly looked to build on the opener and when former Turriff duo David Booth and Nicholas Gray linked up, the latter was wide with a low shot. Minutes later, Hobday blocked a shot with his legs against McGowan before Ross Still sent the follow-up wide of the post.

Turriff had a great chance to even things up when Ross Anderson’s goal-bound header was blocked in the 55th minute.

In the 58th minute, David Booth turned to lay the ball off to Gary McGowan who struck low into the bottom corner from twenty yards for his sixteenth of the season.

The woodwork denied Turriff a route back into the back midway through the half with Angus Grant striking the base of the post. At the other end, a Gray lay-off to McGowan saw the player’s low attempt straight at the keeper.

McGowan would turn provider in 72 minutes. When a corner wasn’t cleared, the winger delivered into the box for michaelclarkMichael Clark to head home his fourth goal of the season.

The home defence was still under pressure as Matthew McDonald and Ross Still both saw attempts blocked in succession.

Turriff teenager Brodie Ross came close to grabbing a consolation for his side when he was kept out by Euan Storrier late on.
