Formartine United made it seven league games unbeaten with an impressive second half display running out four-nil winners over Huntly.

United went with the same eleven which knocked Cove Rangers out of the Aberdeenshire Shield midweek while Huntly gave a debut to Matthew Johnson in goal.

Huntly had a penalty claim turned down in the first minute when Nicholas Gray was bundled over by Jevan Anderson. Gray would come close to opening the scoring moments later when he brought out a reflex save from Kevin Main before firing against the post from the rebound.

Kai Ross saw an attempt wide go wide on the quarter-hour as he got on the end of a Blair Johnston cross.

The visitors came close again on the hour-mark when a Gary McGowan dead ball clipped the top of the crossbar. At the other, Garry Wood went down untouched against Cameron Booth inside the Huntly box and was unfortunate to escape a caution for simulation.

Formartine passed up a great chance ten minutes from the interval. Alexander Jack was short with a back-pass and with Andrew Greig bearing down on goal he rolled his shot wide of the far post.

Half-Time: Formartine United 0 Huntly 0

Eight minutes into the second half, Gary McGowan saw a low shot blocked inside the box and when he reached the rebound, Kevin Main did well to turn the ball behind.

There was controversy in the build-up to the opening goal when Ryan McRitchie was felled inside the home penalty area following an elbow. Play continued and the ball broke to Graeme Rodger who fired home following the ensuing scramble.

The home side were awarded a penalty midway through the half when Andrew Greig was taken down by Alexander Jack. Greig made no mistake from the spot firing low inside the post.

In the 69th minute, Main kept the hosts in the game once again diving full stretch to divert a Glenn Murison long range effort round the post.

Ten minutes later a pinpoint cross from Aaron Norris was met by the head of substitute conorgethinsConor Gethins to nod in unmarked into the far post. Gethins added his second with six minutes remaining powering home high inside the post from twenty yards following a quick passing move.
