Cove Rangers made it nine league games unbeaten at Christie Park with a four-nil win over Huntly.

Huntly were forced into changes from the side which advance in the Aberdeenshire Cup midweek. Alexander Thoirs came in for the injured Alexander Jack while Kai Ross was added to the bench. Cove had to do without suspended forward Jordan Macrae.

There were chances at either end in the opening minutes. Paul McManus passed up a great chance in the fifth minutes while Matthew McDonald fired straight at Stuart McKenzie a minute later. Paul Napier tried his luck with a speculative attempt soon after but McKenzie stood up well to hold.

The league champions opened the scoring in the eleventh minute when midfielder Jordon Brown got in at the back post to net with a downward header.

There was a let-off in the sixteenth minute when an Alexander Thoirs clearance looked to be heading towards his own goal only for Ryan McRitchie to clear.

Blair Yule made a run in behind the home defence in the twentieth minute only for Euan Storrier to pull off a point-blank stop. Storrier was called into action shortly after pull off another good save this time from a Jamie Masson free kick. Masson would again be denied when he headed against the woodwork with eight minutes of the half left.

Three minutes from the interval and Paul McManus appeared to have used a hand in getting past Blair Johnston but he showed good composure to fire low towards the far post for the second.

Half-Time: Huntly 0 Cove Rangers 2

Glenn Murison came close to reducing the deficit nine minutes into the half heading over from a Napier free kick.

Huntly had a chance to get back into the game following a penalty awarded when Darryn Kelly was cautioned for bundling over Glenn Murison. Substitute Kai Ross stepped up but as aimed inside of the post he was kept out by a superb stop from Stuart McKenzie.

With a quarter-hour gone, a set piece was not dealt with and Cove Captain Eric Watson played the ball in from near the by-line allowing the unmarked Harry Milne to tap in on the goal-line.

With second of the ninety remaining, good work by Blair Yule saw the midfield burst into the box before the ball was worked on to Paul McManus to stroke into the empty net.
