Three goals conceded in an eighteen minute spell in the first half proved costly as Huntly went down to a 3-2 defeat to Turriff United.

The hosts were without the suspended pair of Ross Still and Ryan McRitchie and the absent duo Alexander Thoirs and Keith Robertshaw while Craig Reid, David Booth, Martin Charlesworth and Neale Davidson were all ruled out through injury. There was a debut for Kai Ross while new loan signing Euan Storrier was named on the bench. Turriff gave a debut to new goalkeeper Fraser Hobday while Michael Ewen had to settle for a place on the bench against the team he left in May.

With only eight minutes gone, Adam Cross went down under a Glenn Murison challenge. David Ross struck the dead ball up and over from 25 yards firing high inside the post.

The hosts levelled on the quarter-hour mark when Gary McGowan darted into the box and played the ball back from the by-line for Kai Ross to bundle in on his debut from close range.

Two goals within the space of a minute swung the momentum back in United’s favour. An Adam Cross corner in the 25th minute was sent in from the left and Ross Anderson towering over his marker to head home.

Following the restart, Turriff regained possession and full back James Chalmers sent the ball towards goal from 45 yards out on the right flan and it sailed beyond John Farquhar and into the far post.

Huntly were awarded a penalty in the 38th minute when kai Ross was pushed by Liam Strachan. Captain Michael Clark stepped up from the spot only his former team mate Fraser Hobday to parry the kick but teenager Reece McKeown was quick to follow up from the rebound to net with a low drive.

Half-Time: Huntly 2 Turriff United 3

Turriff changed their shape going into the second half and came close again when Anderson threatened from another corner kick while Adam Cross forced Farquhar into a point-blank save two minutes later.

For the first twenty-five minutes of the half, Huntly failed to trouble the opposition goal and in the 70th minute they looked for a breakthrough when McGowan fired in a shot on the turn wide of the upright.

Eight minutes from the end, Farquhar was called into action once again with another point-blank save to deny Angus Grant.
