Monday 15 November Lossiemouth 0 Huntly 6
As the scoreline would suggest, there was only one team in it in this Highland
Youth League game at Grant Park, Lossiemouth, on Monday night. Huntly were
never troubled and with the attacking attitude which they adopted they won easily,
writes Alex. Bremner.
Huntly attacked straight from the start and
came close to opening the scoring in the opening minutes when Paul Winton sent
the ball through for Stuart Allan to win a corner off which the ball broke to
Paul Winton who sent his shot straight at Charlie Fox. With 16 minutes
gone Huntly's pressure paid off with the opener. Paul Winton was again in the
thick of things when he sent the ball out for Robert English to break clear and
when the latter sent the ball into the home goalmouth it cannoned off Nathan
Spencer into the net for an own goal. There was no let-up by the visitors
and when Stuart Allan went through in a great run only to be brought down
inside the home box, he got up to send Charlie Fox the wrong way with his penalty
kick in 19 minutes. Good play by Huntly opened up the home defence and
gave Robert English an opening to go through before sending the ball inside for
Brian Higgins to pull a great save from Charlie Fox. Lossie were not in the
game and when James Reid found Stuart Allan with a great ball, the latter broke
through to draw Charlie Fox out of his goal only to be robbed by Steven McMullen
before he could get in his shot. With half-time approaching, Huntly won
a corner out on the right and when Stuart Allan sent the ball over from this,
Charlie Fox again saved Lossie from falling further behind with a brilliant save
off Bruce Milne's header. Half-Time: Huntly 0 Lossiemouth 2 With
only minutes of the second-half gone, Craig MacDonald had to be stretchered off
after being injured and was replaced by Craig McPherson. The sub. was quickly
in action when he went through in a quick break only for James Reid to get a foot
in to block his shot at the expense of a fruitless corner. With 56 minutes
gone, Stuart Allan was again taken down as he broke through, this time right on
the edge of the home box and when he sent the ball back for Paul Winton to fire
in a fierce drive, Gary Harris was in perfect position to flick it into
the net past Charlie Fox. There was danger for Huntly when Lossie were
awarded a free kick just outside the visitors' penalty area but when the ball
was sent in by Matthew Farquhar it was headed clear by James Watt. From this
clearance, Huntly broke straight to the home end to win a corner and when Robert
English sent the ball over from this one, Lee McGregor was at the back
post to slam it into the net in 62 minutes. There was no let-up by Huntly
against a poor Lossiemouth side and they increased their lead in 66 minutes when
Stuart Allan broke clear in a great run to beat the home 'keeper in 66
minutes. In one of the home side's few raids, Nathan Spencer gained an
opening to fire in a fierce drive which Steven Thomson, who had never so far been
troubled, was in position to hold. Huntly went quickly back on the attack
for Bruce Milne to get in a shot which was blocked, with Gary Harris firing in
a shot off the rebound which was brilliantly tipped over the bar for a corner
by Steven Todd, who had earlier replaced Charlie Fox, and then pulled off yet
another great save from Bruce Milne in the scramble which followed from this.
In a quick break by Lossie, Kyle Stewart split the visitors' defence with
a great through ball only for Lee McGregor to clear the danger and when the ball
was quickly sent to the home end their defence got in a terrible tangle and left
Chris Howe with an opening to walk the ball into the net in 87 minutes.
