Tuesday 5 April
Huntly 0 Fraserburgh 3

In this Highland Youth League Under 19s game against Fraserburgh at Christie Park on Tuesday night, Huntly were fortunate not to fall behind in the first-half, but after being reduced to 10 men early in the second-half the visitors held the upper hand from there on in, writes Alex. Bremner.

There was a set-back for Huntly with only seven minutes on the clock when Bruce Milne took a bad knock and despite treatment on the field had to be helped off and replaced by Jamie Watt.

Huntly were fortunate not to fall behind when Wayne Murdo made a goal-line clearance from Ross Cardno when a mad scramble developed in the home goalmouth

Just on the half-time whistle, William West broke through on the left and sent the ball over for Ross Cardno to fire in a fierce drive which beat Steven Thomson all the way but fortunately for Huntly the ball rebounded off a post to keep a clean sheet at the interval.

Half-Time: Huntly 0 Fraserburgh 0

With the second-half only minutes old, there were claims by Huntly for a penalty when Wayne Murdo appeared to be fouled inside the Broch box when he came up for a corner, but these were waved aside.

The Broch turned on the pressure and with 59 minutes gone took the lead when Ross Cardno broke clear from a long clearance by Calum McRobb and went all the way to give Steven Thomson no chance.

Minutes later, Huntly were reduced to 10 men when Stuart Allan was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on William West.

Huntly came near to getting back on level terms when Lee McGregor sent through a great ball for Robert English to run on to and send in a fierce drive which was deflected for a corner.

From then on the visitors took command and it came as no surprise when, from an offsides award against the home side, Dean Elrick sent his long kick into the Huntly danger area for Muir Murray to collect it and send it through for Ross Cardno to run on to and put his side further ahead in 66 minutes.

Huntly stuck in well with their 10 men, but with 76 minutes gone their defence was caught napping following a free kick out on the left and when the ball was hit back in by Jamie Buchan from the bye-line, Dean Elrick was left unmarked and slammed it into the net.
