Wednesday 8 September Huntly 0 Cove Rangers 1
Huntly were unfortunate not to take something from tonight's match against Cove
even after going down to ten men midway through the second half writes Grant
Turner.
The first half failed to produce any goals but there were some
good chances for both sides. Stuart Allan fired in a great volley to force
a save from Gavin Robertson while at the other end, Steven Thomson saved well
against Stephen Maxwell who got past his marker to fire in a shot. Midway
through the half, Calum Murray showed some great skill before releasing Jamie
Redman. The Cove skipper played a through ball to Steven Slater was denied by
a fine pointblank stop from Thomson. Lee McGregor came close from a dead
ball as Robertson did enough to fingertip the full back's 30 yard effort over
the bar. Half Time: Huntly 0 Cove Rangers 0 Cove broke the
deadlock in the 66th minute as Darren Leslie connected with a fantastic
overhead kick to send the ball high into the net. As Steven Thomson picked
the ball out of his net, the Huntly keeper stupidly got himself red-carded after
throwing the ball off the back of Ryan Sinclair's head. The Cove player saw yellow
second later. With Huntly down to ten men, midfielder Daryl McGregor made
way for substitute keeper Fraser Newlands who took Thomson's place in goal. Huntly
still show great determination despite being down a man. Dale Munro sent a
free kick round the back of the visiting defence and into the path of Allan. The
winger connected with a first time effort which flew narrowly past the visitor's
goal. There was a let-off for the home side with six minutes left. James
Massie was left on his own in attack with Newlands to beat, only to send his effort
high and wide. A minute later, Sinclair looked to have doubled his sides lead
only for the far-side linesman to raise an offside flag. Cove were reduced
to ten men with four minutes remaining as Left Back Michael Reid picked up a second
yellow card as he made a last man challenge on Alan Shearer.
