HUNTLY FOOTBALL CLUB

First round of the Presidents Cup had the Huntly FC under 16`s drawn against Colony Colts away at Davidson Park. It was a cold but beautiful and very sunny November afternoon when we kicked off. The team was without injured Liam,David,Gary and Chris was away leaving only 14 players on our teamlines. Huntly put on the pressure from kick off with Ross having a run up the far line and shot but it was saved by their goalie. Craig then put a great cross into the Colony box but 3 of our lads were clearly off sides. Jamie G back from a spell out, then had a beautiful ball into the centre of their box again, but the goalie snatched it out of the air. 10 minutes later Colony broke through due to a bit of slack defending from Huntly, a cross went in to an unmarked Colony attacker 6yards in front of goal, who ballooned it over the bar. Huntly then had a more sustained period of pressure and forced a succession of corners. From one of these, Craig put a great ball in from our left to the middle of their box, Rory rose high above the Colony defence and bulleted his header down and into the net giving the goal keeper no chance. Score 0-1. 5 minutes later another corner for Huntly had Jamie W. come close with a shot dipping just over. Good battling in mid-field saw Huntly again win the ball and Liam D played a great through ball right into Ross M`s stride to blast it into the bottom corner of Colonys net. Score 2-0. Huntly continued to play some great football Micheal on the right put the ball back to Jamie G who`s volley just missed the target. Another opening appeared and Neil drove into the box before firing just past the post. Half-time 0-2. 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Craig who was having a good game, took a throwin to Jamie G. who turned and shot from the edge of the box drilling the ball into thier net. Brilliant come back. Scopre 3-0. A good run and low cross from Ross M should have resulted in a goal but the ball was somehow cleared from Micheals shot. Colony then got a life line when a push in our box by Jamie W. resulted in a penalty for Colony. This was confidently dispatched into our net. Score 1-3. Huntly were not giving up they continued to push, a great run from Ross M, running half the lengh of the pitch,then turning the ball infield to Ian who cleverly + quickly fed Craig on to the left, who rifled his shot home. Score 1-4. 5 minutes later a Jamie G free kick found Ross M at the back post for a simple finish. Score 1-5. A game that could have finished with a more emphatic score line considering the posession thet Huntly had; but Colony were no pushovers and they worked hard the whole game.
