A beautiful bright, sunny warm day at the Meadows for our third round match versus Vale of Clyde Boys Club. They had left Glasgow at 8am and arrived in Huntly at 12 40pm. We had a full squad except for Danial who had a knee problem. Huntly started well, putting a lot of preassure on the Vales goal. David had a through ball, shot and it went just over the bar. Neal then had a good run, put in a great cross which David headed straight at the Vale goalie. Neal then put in another cross which failed to be met by anybody. Vales first chance came when they broke through our defence but shot straight at Peanut. Huntly continued to press for the opening goal, Terry chested down a ball put a great through ball to David, who let it bounce once then sent it into the top corner of Clydes goal. Score 1-0. A few minutes later we saw a shocking tackle made on Liam Ferguson, studs up, yet only a yellow card was shown. Liam was carried off the pitch in a lot of pain and taken to Elgin for x-ray. Severe damage to his right ankle may keep him out for 6-8 weeks. This incident was followed by a bit of poor defending from Huntly which allowed Vale through and they managed to chip Ryan in goals to level the score. Score 1-1. Huntly were not giving up, Ross crossed a good ball to Ian who turned shot but not on target. Then Ross got through the Clyde defence but did not manage to score. Joe then went on a brilliant mazzy passed to Ross but this came to nothing. Ross then made another good run upfield, passed the ball to Ian who took a shot, the ball came off the keeper, great instinct from Micheal Tait saw him follow it in and put the ball in the back of the net. Score 2-1. Vale of Clyde then took Ian down in the box, the ref did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot. David stepped up,his shot was saved well by the keeper but David stepped in to slot the ball into their net. Score 3-1. Huntly continued to look for their next goal and just before half time they nearly got it, when a corner from Ross was met by David who narrowly missed. From the start of the second half Huntly dominated. Micheal working hard, passed to Ian whos shot was saved.A foul by Huntly on the edge of our box gave Vale a free kick which went straight to Ryans hands. Steven picked up a ball in midfield did a 1-2 with Ross and Stevens shot went just passed the post. Vale of Clyde then had one of their players booked for throughing the ball at Rory, Then they were given a red card when one of their players decided he would tell the referee what he thought of him. "Bleep. bleep" not a good idea. Full-time 3-1. Man of the match Steven Singer, great work also from \David and Micheal and a great defence once again with Ryan having little to test him. Well done boys a great result, well deserved. Thank you to our many helpers who made today go with out a hitch.
