Last Saturday (May 12th), the Huntly Under 19's played their final match of the season away to Glentanar, at Woodside in Aberdeen. We played quite well considering we had 3 or 4 players missing from our usual squad. Players missing were : - Richard Brown (working), Euan Wood (suspended), Lewis Walker (out with illness) and Chris Sutherland, plus regular star player for us (and recent 1st team debutant) Scott Moir was only fit enough to start on the bench, due to a niggling groin injury. We ended up with a 3 - 3 draw which we thoroughly deserved, despite having to cope with a period of sustained Glentanar pressure for the final 20 minutes or so of the first half.

Huntly took the lead early on through a MICHAEL MASSON strike, but Glentanar equalised soon after, 1 - 1 at this point then. Glentanar scored a second with the aid of a deflection around about the 20 minute mark. Huntly equalised through our left back SCOTT COOPER (a rare goal from him, plus even rarer for him, was the fact it was right footed!) We again went behind though, this time to a quite superb goal from our hosts, 3 - 2 to Glentanar then at this point. We then had the period of sustained Glentanar pressure I mention earlier, but we coped with it well, the defence was superbly marshalled by our centre backs Pete Souter (another recent 1st team debutant) and stand-in Skipper Mikey Watson. 3 - 2 to Glentanar was how it finished at the break, but with Huntly by no means out of things!

After speaking to Jim (my fellow match day coach), I decided to introduce 2 of the more experienced lads from the bench for the second half : - Scott Moir coming on and going into central midfield and ex- Middlefield right back Liam Neish (playing his 2nd trial game for us in the last 2 weeks) coming on at right back with Simon Moir moving onto the left side of Midfield. Connor Melville was moved at this point from central midfield to right midfield. 2 of the youngest members of the squad (Kieran Dey and Aidan Bowie) who had both started the game and played the whole 1st half, made way for them.

We played much better in the second half and coped much better with the Glentanar attacks (which were fewer in the second half). Scott Moir made a BIG difference for us in the centre of the park, playing alongside Kieran Grant, both of them following on from the good form they both showed the previous week against 19's A League top team (and recent Cup winners) Apex.  I made my final sub 20 minutes or so from the end, with Craig Gordon coming on for Connor Melville on the right side of midfield, and therefore resuming his former Middlefield and Woodside School right sided partnership with Liam Neish (both of them native Woodsiders playing against Woodside team, Glentanar!) Huntly equalised, (no more than we deserved), through SCOTT MOIR, inside the final 10 minutes or so of the game. Thus the game ended all square at 3 - 3. Pete Souter was voted my Man Of the Match.

All in all, it was an entertaining game and a complete contrast to the ugly scenes we saw, only a few weeks ago at The Meadows when these 2 sides had met in the reverse fixture, in a game which had to be abandoned in the final minute due to violent scenes, with Huntly winning 3 - 2 on that occasion. The league have since declared that particular match null and void, with NO-ONE getting the points.

We have had a VERY good season, considering the 3 age groups we have in the make up of this squad, finishing 4th in the 19's "A League". Qualifying for the "A League" in the first place was a marvelous achievement! The only sides to have beaten us are the 3 teams who have ultimately finished above us, all of which are largely made up entirely of 1993 birthday lads, unlike ourselves, who like I said, have a mix of 1993's, '94's and even 3 with '95 birthdays, this at Under 19's age group makes a BIG difference I can assure you!

All the best to the 7 lads with 1993 birthday's who will now be leaving the Under 19's due to age. I can honestly say it has been a pleasure working with them all. We hope to replace them with lads we pick up from the forthcoming trials (Huntly 19's will need at least 4 new lads, including a Keeper, from these trials), as listed elsewhere, the trials are on the next 2 Fridays at The Meadows with a 7pm start on both nights, any lads with either 1994 or 95 birthdays who are keen to play for the 19's will be more than welcome to come along and join us!

Also, as the season is now at an end, I would like to personally thank my fellow coach Jason, and also match day coach Jim, for ALL their hard work and assistance to me throughout the season. Also thanks to our players parents for their continued support throughout the season, home and away, it's always welcomed!

Last Saturday's Huntly 19's squad was : - Scott Sinclair, Simon Moir, Scott Cooper, Peter Souter, Mikey Watson (Captain), Kieran Grant, Connor Melville, Aidan Bowie, Michael Masson, Phil Morrison, Kieran Dey, Craig Gordon, Scott Moir and Liam Neish.

Yesterday, Saturday 21st April, the Huntly Under 19's were in action in this friendly match away at Ellon Meadows Under 19's, at The Meadows Ellon. Despite the heavy rain elsewhere in the region, The Meadows pitch at Ellon was in reasonably good nick, we have certainly played on far worse! In fact the rain stayed off in Ellon for the whole of this match!

I had arranged this friendly game to give the lads some much needed game time to keep them ticking over, given the fact we had been left fixture-less for the last 2 weeks in a row, with still 2 league games left to play. Despite Ellon being a "B League" team, they gave as good an account of themselves as many other sides we have faced this term in the "A League".

We took the lead in the first few minutes when after a good ball played through from Kieran Grant (I think), MICHAEL MASSON picked his spot and finished calmly into the Ellon net, 1 - 0 to Huntly!

We had the VAST bulk of possession after this and missed a good few further chances, before we went 2 - 0 up round about the 25 minute mark or so, this time through SCOTT MOIR. Huntly then went into a 3 goal lead shortly after, again SCOTT MOIR was the scorer, with one of the best goals I have seen in Youth Football for a long time, he smashed the ball home into the top left hand corner of the Ellon net from a good 22 yards or so out, 3 - 0 to Huntly at this point then.

I made two changes before half time, as we had the benefit of roll-on, roll-off subs with it being a friendly match. At this point Chris Sutherland and Phil Morrison came on for Simon Moir and Michael Masson respectively. Ellon were not altogether out of things and did pose the odd threat on the break, in fact they pulled a goal back from one of these attacks, when we were left quite exposed at the back following an Ellon break forward, and despite our Keeper Scott Sinclair blocking the initial drive, the on-rushing Ellon attacker scored at the second attempt when he slotted home in to the Huntly net, despite Aidan Bowie's best efforts to keep the ball out, on the line. 3 - 1 then to Huntly at this point. We pressed on again and maybe should have went another goal up before the break, but nevertheless 3 - 1 to Huntly was how it stayed at the turn around at Half Time.

I brought on Craig Gordon at Half Time for Scott Moir. We re-started the game and continued to play quite well, creating a good few chances, but unfortunately missing them as well! Ellon didn't really pose much of a threat in attack, although they did have one player with real pace who could have caused us problems, but we coped with things well at the back by and large. Aidan Bowie played really well at left back, in for the working Scott Cooper.  I re-introduced Michael Masson, with him coming on for Kieran Dey on the left wing. In the centre of midfield Kieran Grant played really well, continuing his recent fine form for us, he was always willing to get on the ball and create things for us. I re-introduced Scott Moir, with him coming on in Central Midfield for Connor Melville. We scored our fourth goal when PHIL MORRISON slotted home to put us 4 - 1 up. The Ellon Keeper pulled off another 3 or 4 really good stops in the second half to keep the score down to 4 -1, he saved them mostly with his legs.

I re-introduced Simon Moir, with him coming back on, to replace Skipper Richard Brown, our Vice-Captain Mikey Watson taking over the captaincy. Connor Melville came back on for Kieran Grant in central midfield. Kieran Dey also came back on, he replaced Aidan Bowie, who had played a really good game for us at left back. Simon Moir went to left back, with Michael Masson going back up front, Craig Gordon going to right midfield and Chris Sutherland going to right back to finish the game off. We ran out comfortable 4 - 1 winners in this valuable friendly, a really good work out I felt, much better than sitting idle for 2 weeks in a row.  My Man Of The Match award this week goes once again to Kieran Grant, his second game in a row. Well done once again Kizo!

Yesterday's Huntly Under 19's Squad was : - Scott Sinclair, Richard Brown (Captain), Aidan Bowie, Peter Souter, Mikey Watson, Connor Melville, Simon Moir, Kieran Grant, Scott Moir, Michael Masson, Kieran Dey, Craig Gordon, Chris Sutherland and Phil Morrison.

Huntly started the brighter team and forced a corner in the first minute, which a Valedefender did well to head away wiyh the ball looking like creeping in at the near post. Huntly were showing good fight and winning most of the ball in the midfield and using the angles well, witg Vale mostly playing long balls. Two attempts at the Vale goal saw the ball go over the bar from a Michael Tait shot and an Ian Cruickshank header.Vale took the lead with a goal from nothing really. A throw in found their attacker on the edge of the box and and he dispatched the ball past Daniel with no challenge to be seen. 1-0. Huntly were awarded afree kick on the sideline when David Clark was blatently taken out of the play with a deliberate barge into the perimeter railings, but no card was shown. David was unable to take any further part in the match. Minutes later Vale went 2-0 upwith a good 20 yard free kick. The same player who fouled David got his deserved booking a minute later for a deliberate trip on Joe. HT 0-0 First incident of note in the second half came with about 20 minutes left when a good ball from Joe Davies played in Chris Legge, but the Vale keeper did well at full stretch to get his hands on the ball. One minute later V ale were awarded a penalty from a trip but their player balooned the ball well over from the kick. Next a good run and cross from Michael Tait found no takers. FT 2-0 Not much to write about in the second half and overall not much between the teams apart from an opportunist shot and a free kick. Positives to be taken from the game were that we looked solid, with the defence being in control and a continued strong midfield partnership with Davies and Donaldson winning their battles and scraps and Tait loking to break forward whenever the chance arose. FRASERBURGH vs HUNTLY (cup) Away to The Broch was always going to be tricky. Although a B league team we know from our previous meetings they are a good side. The pitch was small, lumpy and had water lying in some areas. Huntly got off to a flyer scoring twice in the first three minutes. Michael TAIT getting the 1st, picking up the pieces after a freekick was swung in by Fergie. Gary McWILLIAM then netted, volleying in a cross from Neal. The rest of the half was pretty even, but Fraserburgh forced their way back into contention, scoring direct from a 20 yard freekick. HT 1-2 Just after the restart the equaliser came through a cross/shot which curled into the net wind assisted it seemed. Game on. Huntly retook the lead soon after when a great move saw a long diagonal pass from Gary find David CLARK clear on the right, David took a touch in his stride then lashed the ball past the helpless keeper from the corner of the 18 yarder. A blistering finish with as pure a hit as i've seen all season. Fraserburgh had the bulk of possesion from then on, without really threatening that much, but we did create a chance or 2 of our own & were able to see the match out quite comfortably. FT 2-3 Ally named the two Liams (Ferguson & Donaldson) as his men of the match, There can be no debate with that, they have been in great form recently. JS
