Huntly’s development side went down to a six-nil defeat against an impressive Elgin City U18 side this afternoon at Christie Park.
It was the first time the club’s development side had played at Christie Park since 2nd March and for five of the home squad it was their first experience playing at that venue.
Iain Ralston’s side made three changes to the eleven which drew 2-2 with Clachnacuddin three weeks ago with midfielders Alex Davidson and Matthew Begg coming in to start as Owen Campbell and Marley Grigor-Taylor were named amongst the substitutes.
With thirteen minutes gone, Dillon Farquhar was penalised for a foul on opposition captain Fin Allen. Max Taylor stepped up from the spot only for Cameron Middleton (left) to touch the effort onto the post to keep the spot kick out.
Middleton pulled off another top save in the build-up to the opening goal denying Taylor before Fin Allen pounced on a rebound to put the visitors ahead after seventeen minutes.
The black and gold’s lost possession in the 36th minute and after a quick break upfield, Elgin doubled their lead when Jack Hamilton ran on before firing past Middleton.
Middleton kept up his impressive first half performance keeping out Alek Matczak with a point-blank save.
Half-Time: Huntly 0 Elgin City 2
Huntly rang the changes at the interval with Max Cheung, Alex Davidson and Matthew Begg coming off and being replaced by Connor Stuart, Owen Morris and Owen Campbell.
Two of those substitutes combined within a minute of the restart with Owen Morris playing in his namesake Campbell but he curled narrowly over.
Five minutes into the second half, Taylor played in Jack Hamilton who added his second of the afternoon firing high inside the post.
Substitute Keane Mathieson made it four firing in off the post.
Elgin completed the scoring with a further two goals within a six minute spell. A corner from Michael Payne saw the unmarked Jack Royan meet the delivery first time to finish at the back post in the 78th minute. Payne got on the scoresheet himself with six minutes remaining with a great strike high inside the post.
