This is my first column since being appointed captain and I’m happy with Gregg’s decision, my team mates have been good with me and I like to get them going before a game and speak on and off the pitch. I’m proud to be named captain of Huntly as they are a big club.

The first fifteen to twenty minutes against Turriff I thought we were doing well and had the on the back-foot then we resorted to changing our play and play it out form the back which we didn’t need to do putting ourselves under pressure and when you lose the first goal to a good team like Turriff it’s hard to come back but I felt we made a lot of mistakes ourselves which cost us. In the first half we lost two goals in an eight minute spell while in the second half it was another two goals conceded in a matter of minutes. Some may think that’s not a problem but it is and lot of it can be down to communication.
There were some good things to come out of the game because we are good going forward, we just need to get the confidence levels up with some goals and if you can force a lead then you carry on from there. We were quite dangerous from set pieces and could’ve scored from more of them and we showed what we can do with the goal we scored.

Going into today’s game with Cove, they go into the game off a 5-2 Win against Buckie Thistle last week. Cove are always a good team, they big and strong so we’ll have to be ready for them. We had four or five boys out of last week’s game at Turriff that probably would’ve played so it was disappointing to miss a number of them last week as there had been a buzz about the dressing room during pre-season so if we can get some of them back for today that’ll be a bonus for us.
