We can confirm Huntly FC Captain Grant Campbell will be returning to Wick Academy FC from next season after agreeing to re-join his home town club after submitting a transfer request.

The Caithness Club approached Huntly FC to table an interest after discussing the approach with the first Team Manager Gordon Connelly and as a result permission was granted by Huntly Chairman George Clark to speak to Grant.

It was down to Grant's eagerness to return home to Wick Academy FC that made this transfer possible and as a result personal terms were quickly agreed.

Wick are absolutely delighted to be able to acquire such a talented and versatile player of undoubted quality with vast experience who can only enhance and improve the current squad.

Academy thanked Huntly FC Chairman George Clark and Secretary Alix Turner for the very professional manner in which they dealt with this transfer thus enabling it all to happen very quickly.

Huntly Chairman George Clark commented “Naturally we are disappointed to lose a player of Grant's calibre. During his 132 appearances for Huntly his desire and commitment for the club was always exemplary. However, we fully understand his desire to play for his local club once again, and wish him well for the future “

Campbell (24) came to Huntly under John Teasdale in August 2010 following his release from Wick Academy. He intiallly signed on a short-term deal but after an impressive debut against Rothes Teasdale moved quickly to secured the right back on a two year contract. Within his first season at the club he played under a number of Managers when Steve Paterson replaced Teasdale the following month while Martin Stewart had a spell as caretaker boss before Dave McGinlay returned to the club in March 2011. At the start of 2011/12 season McGinlay had named Grant as his club captain a role he relished and during his three seasons wearing as skipper he led by example both on and off the pitch.

At last season's awards lunch his fine form saw him pick up the Forbes Shand Trophy and the Players Player of the Year for 2012/13.
