Huntly have been handed a signing boost with another key player completing a new contract extension.

Midfielder Glenn Murison has finalised a new three year contract extension to keep him at Christie Park until summer 2024.

The 22 year old local who made his 170th appearance on Saturday against Fraserburgh is delighted to be part of a side which is building for the future.

He said: “We’re got quite a young team and it’s important everyone is in it together for the long term. We know we need to keep players not just for this season but future years.

With a club like Huntly, getting young players signed up building for the future is the right way to do it. Financially we’re not the same as the teams at the top end of the league. We’ve shown this season that the players in this squad all pull together, gel well and we do fight for each other and the more experience we gain, it will produce good things.”

With a number of the first team squad still in their early twenties or younger, they have shown in recent weeks Murison says they are capable of putting in performances against teams at the top end of the table.

He added: “Locos and Fraserburgh are two experienced teams and we’ve fought well against both of them and we troubled them in both games. It shows where we’ve come since earlier in the season where we were almost there but couldn’t get across the line in games. Towards the end of the year we weren’t seeing out games but we’ve built on that and important we start getting some wins.”

Manager Martin Skinner was equally pleased to get Glenn to remain at the club and hopes he’s around Christie Park for a long time to come.

He said: “It’s great for Glenn being a Huntly lad and we’re looking at him thinking he could be here for a long time and become a Huntly hero the like Martin Stewart and Russell Guild were during their time at the club.

There’s not been many lately and it’s good for Glenn, we know what he brings for us, everyone involved would want local players pushed through the system. it’s important we keep these good players at the club as there has been interest in the past and it’s a credit to him, we do our best to keep him and it’s great for both parties that he’s agreed to stay.”

Club Chairman Gordon Carter was equally pleased to see the four-time Fans Player of the Year sign a new contract.

He added: “Everyone at the club are delighted to see Glenn sign a new contract that keeps him here until  June 2024.

He has  an incredible number of games under his belt for such a young lad. He has become a very important part of our team over the last few years

Glenn is one of a group  of talented young players that we can see learning, developing and improving with time under the guidance of our Management Team. We intend to keep this squad together and add further quality players when the opportunities arise.”
