Huntly ran out three-nil winners in a re-arranged friendly with amateur side Insch this afternoon. The black and gold’s were originally due to play Echt but with the original opposition unable to play, Huntly took Insch up on their offer after they made an appeal for a game via social media earlier in the week.

Gary McGowan started after signing on loan this morning while new signings Joe Gauld and Jamie Boylan were named amongst the substitutes. Former Huntly winger Kieran Dey started out wide for Insch.

The visitors came close after two minutes when a Cameron Booth header went as far as Kryan Ebbrell who brought out a great save from Euan Storrier.

Booth got forward to create an opening six minutes later finding Gary McGowan with a through ball only to be denied by a good stop from Charles Wood.

In the eleventh minute, a Reece McKeown corner was played inside to Alexander Thoirs. Thoirs crossed in for Ross Still who saw a shot blocked before Logan Johnstone struck wide from the rebound.

Cameron Booth created another chance just after the quarter-hour mark with a through ball for McKeown but the winger saw his shot go by the far post.

Huntly broke the deadlock after 27 minutes, a Gary McGowan shot came back off of both posts and came out for Cai Matthew to tap in from close range.

Good attacking play from Booth saw the midfield release Rhys Thomas down the right flank and Thomas crossed for Matthew whose effort skimmed over the crossbar.

Half-Time: Huntly 1 Insch 0

The home side doubled their lead in the 54th minute, a Ross Still through ball found Huntly’s Trialist who took a touch before squeezing in a shot from a tight angle.

Charles Wood did well to deny Huntly again getting down low to smother a low drive from Alexander Thoirs.

In the 71st minute, Euan Storrier was called into action to prevent Insch sub Ian Cruickshank at the near post. Four minutes later, Scott Forsyth tried his luck with a 25 yard effort which saw Storrier diving low to keep the ball out.

Huntly wrapped up the scoring with eight minutes remaining. The ball took a ricochet inside the opposition box and Calum Reid saw his shot blocked before Jamie Boylan fired high into the net from the rebound.
