Huntly suffered defeat at a wet and windy North Lodge Park as the visitors were blown away in a five-nil defeat to Formartine United.

The black and gold’s had Ross Still and Alexander Thoirs both starting two game suspensions as Declan Milne and Christopher Hay returned to the starting eleven. Manager Martin Skinner had to sit this game out as he served a one game touchline ban.

There was controversy within the first minute as United winger Andrew Greig burst into the Huntly box and looked to have been clipped by goalkeeper John Farquhar inside the box but Referee Mat Northcroft felt there was no contact and waved aside the penalty claims.

Farquhar was kept busy in the open stages keeping out Scott Lisle and Daniel Park in the space of minutes.

With 24 minutes gone, Huntly’s Logan Johnstone appeared to have won the ball against Conor Gethins only to be penalised for a foul by Referee Mat Northcroft. From the resultant free kick, Daniel Park swung the ball in for Craig McKeown with the United Captain netting with a diving header.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Huntly lost possession following a throw and Scott Leslie got past Bradley Manson and Logan Johnstone unchallenged before slotting the ball under the advancing the advancing Farquhar.

Huntly created little in the way of chances in the first half with Logan Johnstone seeing an effort blocked late on in the half following a Kai Ross corner.

Thirty seconds into stoppage time, Formartine created an opening through the middle of the park and Graeme Rodger finished off some attacking play driving low inside the post.

Half-Time: Formartine Untied 3 Huntly 0

Formartine wrapped up the scoring inside the final eleven minutes with two substitutes coming off the bench to score.

In the 79th minute, Jordan Leyden played a ball beyond the onrushing John Farquhar allowing Gary McGowan to tap in from close range.

The only chance of note for the visitors in the second half saw Kai Ross fired wide of the post from a 25 yard effort.

With four minutes remaining, Jordan Leyden would find himself with plenty of space to run into before firing in low to complete the rout.
