Huntly moved up to fifth with an impressive 5-2 victory at Nairn. The home side had Kenneth McKenzie, Callum Maclean, Gregg Main and Ryan Macdonald out injured while Huntly were without Ryan Stewart as Ross Still returned form suspension. The visitors got their noses in front after six minutes when a free kick from Paul Napier out on the right wing gathered pace and went straight into the far post. Former Huntly midfielder Ross Naismith tried his luck with a dipping shot from 25 yards out as Craig Reid got down to save. Naismith turned provider three minutes later sending a free kick in for Gary Kerr but the forward’s first-time effort was over the bar. Adam Naismith was short with a back-pass midway through the half and as Dennis Wyness looked to take advantage, Stephen Foster narrowed the angle forcing Wyness to shoot wide. Huntly were forced into an early change when Ross Still went off with a knee injury and had to be replaced by Michael Ewen after 29 minutes. It took Ewen only two minutes to make an impact when he ran onto a Wyness through ball before drilling wide of Foster for his 200th goal in all Highland league competitions. The woodwork denies Huntly a third minutes later when a Gary McGowan shot rattled the crossbar after Ewen laid off a David Donald throw. Nairn were looking to reduce the deficit before the break but a timely interception from Kieran Adams denied Kerr. Half-Time: Nairn County 0 Huntly 2 Three minutes into the second half, Kieran Adams bundled over Dylan Mackenzie inside the box. Adams and Blair Johnston were both cautioned before Jordan Macrae sent Reid the wrong way from the spot. Just before the hour mark, a Napier free kick was met by Michael Clark who got down to head in the third. Three minutes later, a Napier free kick was partially blocked and Gary McGowan powered high inside the post. Some strong goalkeeping from Reid kept out the hosts again as the former Cove keeper blocked a Jack Maclean effort. Following the resulting corner Jack Maclean added a second for the hosts with a tap in on 64 minutes before Dennis Wyness netted a Huntly fifth just two minutes later with a powered header off another Napier delivery. |
